Content Developers (20+ Remote Positions)

Bayfield Design, located in Bayfield, Ontario, is offering an exciting opportunity for innovative and creative educators and designers to join a team of content developers focused on building exceptional online learning experiences.

The content developer will be responsible for working on a range of development projects and initiatives at all levels. Current projects are underway at the elementary, secondary, and post-secondary levels, with a large elementary course development project starting this fall. Bayfield Design has a special interest in candidates with qualifications or experience at the elementary level in the following areas:

  • Health & Physical Education
  • Social Studies, Geography, and History
  • Core French
  • Language

The content developer will work as part of a team to write and/or develop and design course content for various projects. There are approximately 20 full-time, permanent positions available, with 20+ additional full-time set term contract positions available. Full-time and contract positions will be determined at Bayfield Design's discretion. All work will currently be completed remotely.

Salary: $43,000–$50,000 (commensurate on education and experience), group benefits program (available for permanent and contract positions), RRSP matching program (available for permanent positions).

All content developer positions are remote and allow successful applicants to work from home.

Qualified candidates will have the following:

  • Bachelor of Education OR equivalent relevant experience/qualifications
  • Experience teaching in one or more of the subject areas identified
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to meet tight deadlines and specific project requirements
  • The ability to work well independently and as part of a team to complete tasks
  • Exceptional skills in writing and research
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Well-developed technical skills

Ideal candidates will have the following:

  • Experience teaching in the classroom and online
  • Experience working with curriculum at different levels and/or from different jurisdictions
  • Additional education or experience in online learning, education technology, or related fields
  • Experience with HTML programming or experience with course/content development software
  • 2–5 years' experience in education, technology, or related field
  • Experience in curriculum development and/or program planning
  • Demonstrated experience with online learning management systems

Junior Front-End Web Developer

Bayfield Design is looking for web developers to join its growing technology and web development team! As a developer and publisher of online educational content, Bayfield Design wants to hear from development wizards who are eager to bring technical expertise and creative solutions to the company.

The Bayfield Design technology team maintains a modern, proprietary web development framework for our online courses. We are seeking a junior front-end web developer to join our team and contribute to this framework. You will use modern JavaScript techniques to create and maintain new framework components. You will need an eye for design and user experience and need to be ready to use VS Code, Vue, Webpack, Cyrpress, BrowserStack, Jira, Slack, Git, and GitKraken to run your dev environment.

This is a full-time, permanent position with benefits and RRSP matching available after a 3-month probationary period.

Compensation: $48,000-$55,000 (commensurate on education and experience), group benefits program, RRSP matching program.

Responsibilities, will include the following

  • Use SCSS, JavaScript, Vue.js and other libraries to design and develop components for Bayfield Design's web development framework.
  • Use SCSS and JavaScript to implement and update framework style and function.
  • Ensure accessibility of framework components.
  • Write end-to-end tests to ensure the quality of your components.
  • Work with content developers and clients to coordinate requirements, schedules, and development.
  • Contribute to team meetings.
  • Troubleshoot development and production problems across multiple environments and operating platforms.
  • Support content developers and other staff with technical advice and documentation.

Qualified candidates will have the following:

  • College diploma and/or university degree in computer science or related subject.
  • Experience with most or all the following: HTML5, JavaScript (ECMAScript 2018), SCSS, Git & Git workflows, Cypress, Mocha, or testing frameworks, Vue.js, React, or other modern web development frameworks, npm, Webpack, Brightspace or related learning management system experience.
  • Experience with user interface design, web programming, software requirements, software debugging.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

AWS System Operations Administrator

Bayfield Design is looking for an Amazon Web Services (AWS) SysOps administrator to join its growing technology and web development team! As a developer and publisher of online educational content, Bayfield Design wants to hear from tech gurus eager to bring their expertise to the company.

Bayfield Design uses Amazon Web Services (AWS) to manage aspects of its business operations. We are seeking an AWS SysOps Administrator to manage and expand elements of our AWS infrastructure. You will work as part of the technology team at Bayfield Design to identify service needs, deploy and manage AWS systems, and document best practices.

Compensation: $55,000-$65,000 (commensurate on education and experience), group benefits program, RRSP matching program.

LMS Manager & Quality Assurance Tester

Bayfield Design is looking for a tech-savvy LMS manager and QA tester to join its growing technology team! The LMS manager and QA tester will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance of Bayfield Design's instance of the Brightspace learning management system (LMS) as well as the quality assurance (QA) review process for the learning content developed at Bayfield Design.

The LMS manager and QA tester will work as part of the technology and web development team to manage the processes within these two areas and ensure that the end products Bayfield Design creates are of high quality, adhere to best practices, and are in line with client expectations.

Compensation: $48,000-$60,000 (commensurate on education and experience), group benefits program, RRSP matching program.

Education & Skill Requirements

  • Three years of experience with Brightspace or other institutional learning management systems
  • Experience managing users, user roles, user permissions in a variety of contexts
  • General knowledge of web development and networking concepts including HTTP, TLS, HTML, CSS, Javascript, files types, authentication strategies, file handling, databases, and server-side scripting
  • General knowledge of QA concepts including issue-tracking and automation
  • General knowledge of digital publishing concepts including layout, graphic design, copy-editing, media production, and web accessibility

  • Export and import course packages.
  • Manage users, roles, and permissions.
